THERION – February 2018 – Newcastle Riverside – PHOTO FEATURE

Therion – 6th February 2018 – Newcastle Riverside

For 2018 I’ve set myself the goal of seeing bands and genres that I wouldn’t normally see. Therion and their symphonic metal seemed to fit that goal perfectly. A hugely enjoyable act to photo. There’s always something happening and dramatic performances to try and capture. Somewhat overwhelming and I hope I’ve managed to do them justice in this selection of images.

I was shocked at the poor attendance for the gig. Despite this, the band performed impeccably giving the fans a show that they’d remember and cherish.

Street Art – STREET PHOTOGRAPHY FEATURE

Street art – Newcastle upon Tyne

I’ve driven past the graffiti on Warwick Street millions of times, but have never had a chance to take a close look. Those who know me will know my love of good street art and I couldn’t resist getting a few snaps while I was there.

Winter in Newcastle, there’s not many gigs on at this time of year. So to relieve the boredom I headed out for a walk and took my camera

Black and White Newcastle (Part 30) – PHOTOGRAPHY FEATURE

Black and White Newcastle photography (Part 30)

Back after a long break. Here is a new instalment of my Black and White Newcastle series. I love Newcastle and I love black and white photography. Therefore the two just have to be combined 🙂

I thought I’d bring back the series with a special piece. I’ve walked past this monument for years without really paying much attention. Until I came up close with my camera. I didn’t appreciate just how detailed and fascinating this sculpture really is. There is so much going on, so many stories and ultimately a sense of hope and pride. This coupled with St Thomas Church itself, a stunning piece of architecture, made me feel humble for living in such a historic city.

THE HUNNA – January 2018 – Newcastle O2 Academy – REVIEW and PHOTOS

The Hunna – 8th January 2018 – Newcastle O2 Academy

Since May 2016 I’ve watched this band climb up the Newcastle venue ranks, from Think Tank, O2 Academy 2, the Boiler Shop (as part of Hit The North festival) and to the Riverside. The crowd growing bigger and bigger with each gig, culminating in tonights’ main hall Academy O2 sellout show.

The band had posted earlier in the day that they had the last 27 tickets and a lot of the time this kind of publicity is just that, publicity to create interest but not with this show. Both main room and balcony were absolutely rammed and had been from the first of the three band bill. The Hunna come out and the crowd treat them like returning heroes throughout the show.

They look and sound great backed up with a great stage production. As well as the already known tunes the new songs from the upcoming album are blistering and the fans react as if they are old favourites. And it’s this fan base that is heart and soul of the band, the first time I saw them the kids knew the words to every song even though they hadn’t released them yet. This crowd were ten times bigger but just as fervent. It’s going to be interesting to watch the next eighteen months, having seen their rise in the previous!
