Dinosaur Jr. – 17th November 2016 – Glasgow O2 ABC
I haven’t seen Dinosaur Jr. since 2010 on their UK tour with none-other than Built To Spill. That was the lineup of 90’s indie dreams! I caught J last year on his solo tour and I just had to hit the road and catch the full original lineup.
Dinosaur are a rare breed; a band that have consistently delivered record after record. Each offering is compliments the back catalogue. Proving that reformed bands can be more than just a nostalgia fuelled cash cow.
The reformation seems like yesterday, but actually it’s been over a decade now. In that time they’ve added to a long list of classic songs. ‘Beyond’ from 2007 has now become my favourite LP of theirs. On the night we get a nice dose of each of those. Delving into the past and present, songs from all eras of Dino blasted punters ears.
Bursting into Bulbs of Passion the set gets under way in style, follwoed by The Lung which get’s a great reaction from fans. Time for some new stuff, they throw a couple of bangers from their 2016 album ‘Give a Glimpse of What Yer Not’. ‘Love is’ brings a slower pace and gives Lou Barlow the chance to shine.
The venue was absolutely packed, apparently not sold out, but we could hardly move so it really couldn’t have been far off a sell out.
30 years of Dinosaur and they still pull a loyal audience. Just Like Heaven during encore makes my day.
Photography-wise I did feel like i was battling the lights, but the images I came away with have an ultra gritty look, with lots of black and white loveliness! If I’d have told my teenage self one day I’d get to photo this band I would not have believed it. Think this is my photo highlight of 2016 🙂
