Alien Ant Farm – 17th February 2018 – Newcastle O2 Academy
By Gordon Armstrong (G’s Gig Shots)
The set tonight is fast and frantic belting out fourteen songs in just over seventy minutes, to comply with the venue curfew. Opener ‘Bad Morning’ sets the mood and pace and a surprisingly early in the set (3rd song). Movies has everyone even some of the photographers in the pit bouncing along!!
Six of the songs are from the Anthology album, (well ok one of those originally on the debut Greatest Hits as well) and three from the Up In The Attic album. The rest of the setlist is spread out across their career even including These Days from that Greatest Hits debut.
The band are as tight as they’ve ever been and Dryden is great frontman engaging everyone in the audience but for me the high light of the night is the inclusion of Attitude that echoing guitar lick of Terry Corsas taking me back to possibly the hottest gig I have ever been to when AAF opened for Papa Roach at Northumbria Uni!
Obviously, it’s Smooth Criminal rounding the night off that gets the biggest reception and the whole place just goes mental and then just like that it’s lights up and it’s over!! I think even for a short set it still flew by, which in my eyes is a sign of a good thing
