British Sea Power 8th April 2017 – Newcastle Riverside
I first saw British Sea Power perform at All Saints Church on the quayside back in 2007. That was my first exposure to the band and I was hooked from day one. To this date that remains in my top 10 gigs. Since that day I’ve seen them more times than I can recall, this must be about the tenth time. I’ve also accumulated a ton of BSP merch and tea cups!
Remarkably this is the first time I’ve photoed them. They returned to Newcastle to promote their new album ‘Let The Dancers Inherit the Party’. Another gem in the BSP back catalogue. Once you get BSP there’s no turning back. I noticed a few familiar faces from previous BSP shows. They seem to attract a avidly dedicated following. I was very impressed to see a girl at the front singing all the songs, word for word, including the new material!
This time they play my beloved Riverside to a sold out audience. In fact that’s the first sell out I’ve seen in Newcastle since I’ve been following them. They deliver the goods with a mix of old BSP and a fair chunk of the new LP. Waving Flags gained a massive reaction from the crowd.
Dancing bears made a return and space suits made a fun appearance. Great show from one of the greatest bands of all time.
