Anthrax 16th February 2017 – Northumbria Institute
Metal is not dead. Far from it. This is the busiest gig I’ve seen at Northumbria Uni since the 90s. Packed out, boiling hot, wild audience and of course one of thee all time great thrash metal bands. It was one hell of a night.
Hands down the most fun I’ve had shooting a gig in a while, possibly the most fun I’ve ever had shooting a gig! Fast paced lighting changes made photoing challenging but rewarding, settings constantly being tweaked as I reacted to the changes. The lighting tech definitely earned his wage, giving us a spectacular show which was a delight to snap.
It’s been tricky narrowing down the shots to a sensible amount. Many, many keepers. We were permitted to photo the second set of the night but it seemed like over-indulgence to do that. If only more bands were like Anthrax. Bloody marvellous and yes they’ve still got it!
I bumped into Joey Belladonna by accident whilst grabbing a photo of Scott Ian. Joey could have been annoyed (rightly so to!) instead he obliged me and sang directly into my camera. What a moment. I’ll treasure that for years to come.
Anyway, I’m waffling! If you were there you know how good the show was, so here’s the photos!
