KYLVER – New album ‘The Island’ – VIDEO and INTERVIEW

Kylver are a band that we’ve followed keenly since I saw them perform their very first gig back in April 2015. That in itself is quite surreal, they’ve made a huge impression in such a short amount of time.  Second album from Kylver, ‘The Island’ out 6th October 2016. I’ve heard it and it is astonishing.

I was lucky enough to spend a day with them while they recorded at Blank Studios, Newcastle upon Tyne. We collated some footage from that day…

INTERVIEW

“The album is called The Island and you can hear two tracks right now at kylver.bandcamp.com, where you can also pre-order the album for its release on the 6th of October.”

“The concept of album follows the travels of an 18th century sailor/privateer who learns that, not only is the fabled island that once stirred his imagination is real, but also contains a magical portal into an unknown dimension and the adventures that follow… A story which has been evolving throughout the creative process of writing the music.”

“We were happy with the outcome of our ‘The Mountain Ghost’ album and wanted to keep a similar set-up and use the momentum that the familiarity brings. So we returned to Blank Studios and recorded with Sam Grant again (from the band Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs Pigs) over four days back in June 2016.”

“We started writing new material right after the recording of the last album in the summer of 2015 and have recorded demo versions of the songs in the rehearsal room which allowed us to play with arrangements until we find what we are looking for.”

“We are in the process of promoting and completing UK wide set of shows for the rest of 2016. Ideally we’d like to try and hit up some festivals next year and possibly sort out some European dates.”

“The new video for Hy-Brasil is slowly building and we are hoping it gives us more of the exposure we need to play further afield. We’ve also started putting ideas down for another album. So a pretty positive outlook for whats next for Kylver.”
