Blank Slate recommended gigs – July 2016 – Newcastle upon Tyne

July has some corkers on after a fairly quiet June, here’s our pick of Newcastle gigs that tickle our fancy.

Blank Slate Recommended Gigs

Animals as Leaders – O2 Academy 12th July 2016

Prog metal guitar wizards hit Toon. Promising to be one of the gigs of the summer. A ridiculous display of talent and ability that has to be seen to be believed.

Tosin is often touted as being one of the greatest guitarists on Earth. This is a rare chance to get up close and see them, particularly here in Newcastle. So as they say DO NOT MISS!

Riff Night – Cluny 2, 8th July 2016

Bloodstock big hitters Dirty King and Tombstone Crow host a night of riffs (as you’d expect!). Kraken Waker make their Newcastle debut, many of you on the rock scene will recognise them from their previous project Ten Ton Friday. Sorry for Nothing are also on the bill, who I have yet to see live. Oh and free shot of sassy liquor on the door. Crack on!

NARC Fest  Ouseburn, Byker 2nd July 2016

Far too many bands on to mention. Loads of venues and all FREE! My pic of the bunch would go to the Tyne Bar where Black Lung Club (fka Tissue Culture) play.  More here.

Ginger Wildheart Band – 17th July 2016 Trillians

Ginger heads to Trillians with a full band. See one of the best songwriters in the North in the best bar in Toon?

YES! That is all.

The Wildhearts - Newcastle O2 Academy Sept 2015

The Wildhearts – Newcastle O2 Academy Sept 2015

Workin’ Man Noise Unit – Head of Steam 30th July

I picked up their LP at Record Store day and mark my words it’s ace, I have a sneeky feeling they’ll exceed that ‘ace’ness in a live scenario.
