Built to Spill – 28th November 2015 – Leeds Brudenell Social Club
I just couldn’t say no to a road trip to see one of my all-time favourite bands and in such a great venue! They’re probably the best guitar band of the last 20 years, no idea why they’ve never made it big. The new album is brilliant and they played a few songs from it on this night, along with some well-received classics.
Disco Doom opened up and played a brilliant set, and I’m sure they’ve made some new fans on this tour. DO check them out, they’re very good.
The first few songs of the set sounded fairly horrific, which was somewhat heartbreaking. But mixing problems were finally sorted and we could now hear Doug’s vocals. From that point forward they had the audience eating out of their hands.
They ran through a slick 2-hour set, which felt like only minutes had passed. I really wanted it to go on for a few hours more! They ended the night on an epic version of Broken Chairs. Gigs like this make me wish they’d tour more. I’ve been a fan for 15+ years and I’ve only seen them twice 🙁
Here’s a few pics from the gig. Apologies for the lack of angles. To make up for that there’s a bonus pic of Doug enjoying the support act 🙂 What a gig, this will surely make my top 10 of the year.
